04 Good morning podcasting Morning Chat. Today is Thursday July 24th, 2025 and today we're diving into a popular podcasts sudden Instagram ban and an answering an honest question. How do you handle feeling like a fraud even when things go well? So if you're listening live on Clubhouse or Chatter, hit the share button, bottom of the screen on Clubhouse and top of the screen on Chatter. And if you're listening via podcast, please share this with a fellow podcaster. And now give me about 30 seconds and we'll get things rolling. Thanks for being here.

20 Good morning again, podcasting, Morning Chat. Thank you so much for being here. I am your host Mark Ronick. And on stage, currently on Clubhouse, we have producer Ashley Feller, Amanda Sharp, and Dr. Fay. And of course, on Chatter. On stage with me, we have Jonathan Howard. Today feels a little sloppier for me with all the new moving parts. I thought I had it all together. Things have gone really smoothly and today I feel like I'm stumbling everywhere. And now I just realized I got to fix something on my phone so Chatter doesn't keep cutting in and out on me. Jonathan, I assume my intro got a little bit cut off. We're fine, just watch the room through the chat and if you make me a mod I'll run the rest.

07 Thank you. Forgot about that. Yeah. So see, lots of moving parts. I'm still figuring it out, and we'll get there, I promise. What I'd like to do first is actually share. If you heard my intro, I mentioned this popular podcast that recently got an Instagram ban. And actually, this is somebody I know personally. The podcast is called Dopey the Dopey podcast and this is a podcast. Well, I'll let the the host explain, but I'll share first. He is married to my one of my cousins and he started his podcast about a decade ago and he came to me for some advice, especially in the earlier years.

52 He we would just sit and talk and I would give him some podcasting advice here and there to help the show long and it is really taken off since then. I think what really put them on the map was NPRNPR did one of their podcasts This American Life. They featured the Dopey Podcast and the unfortunate part about this show is that Dave, we'll call him my cousin Dave's Co host who he started the show with Chris actually on this very day, seven years ago, had a relapse because well, I should have said the Dopey Podcast is all about drug addiction. I don't know if I said that.

33 And Chris had a relapse and passed away seven years ago today, which feels even worse when we find out that as of this past Friday, Instagram just took down the Dopey Podcast Instagram page, which was one of his primary social media pages, really had built up a following over there. And no warning, nothing. So I'm going to actually just play first this clip. It's like a minute or so long that he posted to Facebook because he's not banned from Facebook. And it was on his personal page talking about what has happened and really asking for some help.

15 Hello everybody, my name is David Mannheim. I created and produced and host a podcast called Dopey on the dark comedy of drug addiction. I started it 9 1/2 years ago with my friend Chris. The idea was to tell stories about drug addiction and ultimately stories about recovery. It was on drugs, addiction and dumb shit. It was on the dark comedy of drug addiction. Tragically, 7 years ago this week, Chris relapsed and died of a fentanyl overdose on Friday when I came home from a family vacation. Instagram shut down our account and said that we were promoting drugs and violating community standards because robots don't understand satire. So help me fight back.

08 This is the first video of many. I don't necessarily know what I'm doing, but I need your help. Stay strong my brothers and sisters, in and out of recovery and fucking toodles. For Chris and that last line there effing toodles for Chris. That is their tagline, much, much like I'll say make it a great day. At the end of the show, Chris used to say, as if if I recall correctly, that used to be Chris's line and it used to drive Dave crazy. And when Chris had passed, that was one of Dave's way ways of honoring Chris and how he does embrace that term and says it and so does his community. That is such a thing you'll see on all of their social media posts, but unfortunately not on Instagram as of right now. So there's a lot to unpack here.

02 And DRI know you were saying that to me before we started the show. You felt like there was a lot to unpack here. Where do you suggest we start with this? This is multi layered here. There's like the big meta giant in the sky that doesn't have a face. It's just like, you know, don't look behind the curtain, don't look at the little man behind the curtain. And the censorship thing is there's that and the whole bot thing. The fact that I mean, this is just driving home how there needs to be some people behind these big conglomerate non faced companies. There needs to be humans behind there. This is like the golden child of examples of what can happen. Yeah, we talked about the fact that it's really dangerous to rely on your social media.

57 And I'll say first let me say it's dangerous because something like this can happen, right? Or you could get hacked and lose your account. There could be a bunch of reasons why that's that's one. And I think, you know, we, we urge you to have things like newsletters and have things like other social media accounts, etcetera, so that you're not depending on one place. And he's not like he's got a YouTube channel, he's got a Facebook group that's really rocking. Got a Patreon? He's got a Patreon. I see. I'm I'm looking at his at all of his episodes now. And he's still heartbroken. That's the thing, right? Like let's be real, that's one area we haven't really gone to yet is even if you have all the fail safes in place, it still sucks when one of your number one platforms is pulled out from under. You for the wrong reason.

48 Now, look, I will say that the Dopey podcast, in the clips that he plays, a lot of times they are he's sitting down with a celebrity or he's sitting down with somebody who is recover a recovering addict, right? And they talk about the very real stories of their addiction. And sometimes, thankfully, they can laugh about them. And so who knows, maybe perhaps Instagram felt like, well, this isn't appropriate to be laughing about addiction, but this show has become a movement. This show has helped so many people through recovery.

29 And I mean, he has conventions. He calls it dopey con with big. Names. Oh, that's great. Yeah, big name celebrities come to this and his community comes in droves, like he's doing all the things. And he just one of the last things he, he texted me, 'cause I was asking him some questions this morning. I was trying to get him to come on, but he's got something going on. But he's devastated. Yeah, this thing has kicked the guts out of me. That's his quote. Jonathan, I see your hand is up. And as one of our go TOS when it comes to social media, what do you say about all this? In early, late spring, I went to the conference down in Texas and spoke there.

11 Now about two weeks after that conference happened, the owner of that conference and everything, she lost her Instagram, Facebook and Threads, all because of a misinterpretation of a post. She had 100 some odd 1000 followers between the bunch. What we helped her do was we posted on LinkedIn about it tagging Instagram business. We posted on Twitter and Twitter's actually what saved them. She was able to get through with somebody on Twitter because even though she was verified, they weren't able to help her get any anything anywhere on the Meta platforms until the customer service came through on Twitter. Definitely post on Twitter, definitely express anger and then all of us can go and re share those posts throughout the platforms, including on Instagram.

59 So if you've got access to your Instagram, then you can share it on Instagram and let them know. And they were able to get their entire compliment of profiles back. It took two weeks, but they were able to do it. OK, so there's hope. I was waiting for you to say, you know, you can try but but you have a real life example here And was that account a bigger account? Whatever. However we want to define bigger. But did they have a big following? The conference and have a huge following because it's a fairly new conference but she so she lost her business account her conference account and her personal account. Now she has 100,000 some odd followers and then a couple accounts that were actually attached because they were lines that she ran were shut down too.

44 So yeah, she she lost a bit on them, but. That's cool to know. So you're suggesting on other social media platforms and on Instagram Post, read post about it, say and tag Instagram tag what else creators ad? Creators. Yeah, all, all of the Instagram accounts you can think of, tag all of those. And of course, Adam, Missouri. Yes, OK, so this. Is and we'll put some links in the show notes. Absolutely. And I'll share it out loud to dopeypodcast.com. You can get all of their information there. You can find their other social media accounts so that you can tag them as well and let let Instagram know that they have been wrongfully removed.

32 They effed up. Yeah, yeah. They effed up bad. So, Jonathan, was she able to regain the numbers that she had before, or was it just a big, long, long climb back? No, she was able to regain her entire her profiles back exactly as they were. They suspend, they suspend them, but they keep the the profile. Thank goodness in case they make a mistake. Interesting. Does anyone have any other suggestions, thoughts, ideas as to what we could do? I know that one of the things that I was thinking is we could do a petition, an online petition. I don't know how well those work.

13 And Jonathan, I don't know if you know how well those work, but I know that there are places out there like Change.org, ipetitions.com, I think actionnetwork.org, maybe another one where you can create your own petition. You could title it, reinstate at Dobie Podcasts Instagram account. You know, this was a mistake, something like that. Explain. But I guess this really should be for him to do and then create the link. But I'm sharing this in case somebody else listening goes through this. They know that they could do something like this too. So yeah, you just create the petition, add a few paragraphs about what's going on, why it's unfair, target and tag the right people, include a call to action and then blasted everywhere.

00 Similarly to what Jonathan was saying, do it on X do it on threads, on Facebook, TikTok, wherever and tag Instagram, tag at creators and where whomever else like Jonathan was suggesting Adam Missouri, etcetera. But let's try to help dopey podcast because yeah, of course I have a personal tie because I this guy is in my family, but also this is a really important show. He's helping. I can't tell you how many people this show has helped. I genuinely don't know and I know it is a lot. I I follow the Facebook group and I see the amazing flooding of posts from people thanking this podcast for being there for them.

46 Addiction can be very lonely, and Dave has created a space for people to feel a little less lonely and to feel encouraged through the difficulties of breaking through addiction. So let's help Dopey podcast out. We'll put, like Dr. said, we'll put lots of links in the show notes Dr. suggested earlier, and I'm going to take her up on it. We're going to reach out to podnews.com. Being that we have a good relationship with James Cridland, hopefully he could do at least a blurb about it to raise some awareness as well. Good luck to Dave. And again, I mentioned earlier, his Co host Chris passed away seven years ago today.

30 So our condolences and fucking toodles to Chris. So with that, we're going to switch gears unless anybody else has anything they wanted to add. Renee, did you want to add something? Welcome to the stage. More on a preventative concern. People are wondering, how do I keep this from happening to me? Well, we never know when the number is up. We don't know what caused this AI glitch, you know, spam attack, saying it's a terrible profile. We just don't know, right? But as a marketing agency, we've had to get a lot of people out of jail. And the thing that always helps is if they were running ads, if they were running ads, we can go through the support desk for the ads console, you know, through our business manager and we can go in there and have them advocate for us. So not only can the client, because the client is in the business manager, but I can also go in and advocate as their agency.

22 So my only thing is I'm saying is if you wanted to run just low level $3 a day and running, you know, to your account and just have these, you know, and we're talking $100, but we are living on their atmosphere for free, right? Is it worth it to pay that extra $90.00? So that's just my you think I worked for Meta by the way I talk, but that's where I've seen I've been able to do magic when they've been running ads with stuff like that. I think that's a good point. I know that before I got verified on Instagram, that was a strategy I used when I got hacked because I happen to have been running ads or yeah, I think I was running ads at the time.

05 And so I had a way, a better way of connecting. But I just said it, and this is what surprises me is he was a verified account. And yet one of the perks of having a verified account is that you're supposed to be able to have access to Instagrams customer service, yet it's not helping him at all. Yeah, Jonathan, go ahead. Brittany, who's the one that with the account was also verified and it didn't help at all. The one thing I want to tell people is, you know, sometimes even though it doesn't look like you were spam attacked, it could be a spam attack that impacts those things. So please make sure you check it's in your settings. There will be a thing saying emails from Instagram.

45 Check those first. Don't like just open any links on your DMS and stuff that are suspicious. There's a lot of stuff happening. So just don't open those links. Thank you, Jonathan. And by the way, I just have to say thank you for making this really cool animated graphic here on Chatter. We have pinned at the top of the page on Chatter. Jonathan has made a really cool video graphic that just kind of scrolls through all the different things that we do here in this community, from the podcasting morning chat to empowered podcasting too. It's really cool. And I and I really appreciated nice touch where you included my tagline, make it a great day in there.

26 So if anybody's interested, come over to Chatter and check that out. Ashley, if you don't mind pinning a link to the room, the Chatter room, I would appreciate that. And I'm going to keep things going because we've got 2 full stages now that we're on Chatter as well. So let me actually go to the Chatter stage. And I should also say we have Amanda Yoho as a Co host moderator here on Chatter and I'm going to skip her for a second and go to a guest that's on the stage, Yvonne. Yvonne has jumped from Clubhouse over here to Chatter. Good morning. Yvonne, did you want to add to the conversation? Jonathan invited me to to speak so I just accepted but I'm just I'm checking out chatter. What do you think so far?

12 Got to join Jonathan's rule last night that the onboarding that he said, which was super helpful. And I don't know what I think yet. Honestly, it's weird to not see the people's faces in Clubhouse. So when somebody's talking, I'm like, oh, who, who? You know, if it, if it's not somebody, I already know their voice really well. I'm amazed. Before you go on, I just want to acknowledge that we have Dominic in the room along with Paula and Jeff. Yes, indeed. To be acknowledged. Absolutely, and great to have some familiar faces on the stage, some that we don't get to see as often these days.

57 So cool. Thank you all for joining us. Let's go to Jeff first. That's at least how I see it here on the queue. So Jeff, good morning. Did you want to add to this conversation about getting banned? It's one quick thing and being verified on Instagram and being verified on Facebook. If he's not verified on Facebook, he should do that and that because then you can get into their support system through the Facebook. App. That's a great suggestion. Thank you, Jeff. That makes a lot of sense. So get verified on Facebook, that'll be a little backup protection from your Instagram or vice versa for that matter. Anything else, Jeff? No pressure, just wanted to make sure.

37 I did hit 500,000 views on YouTube last night. So like a combined from all your videos so far? Was it 1 video? I wish it was wondering I'd be so rich right now. I wouldn't be talking to you. No, it was combined, but it was like it was a little milestone. So I thought it was it was cool. Wait, what's that? Paula's charming. And what's that, Paula? I'm telling Jeff wins is tomorrow. Wins. That's right, That's right. Yes, Fridays we do. Wins. That's a good win to share tomorrow. But if Jeff can't make it, he got it in early, was excited right now, so I just had to share it. I just like distracting Jeff. I clearly thank you, Paula.

17 Thank you, Paula. All right, let's check in with Paula while we're here. Paula, did you want to add on to this? I know there was another topic what we were going to bring up with you today. Is that why you're up here, or did you want to add on to the whole band thing? I'm happy because you kept on asking me to be happy. I'm up. No, I did not have anything to add on to this. I'm just here to disrupt. OK. We'll come to you because I do know you. We talked about something going on with you that maybe we could talk about a little bit this morning as well. And then we'll try to get into our conversation about what really makes a great guest, which I'll just tease and say I thought it would be appropriate to talk about what makes a good guest after earlier this week we were talking about guests gone wrong, right? So OK, we got that out of the way. Now let's talk about what makes a great guest. So we'll get into that, too.

07 First, I will say a quick good morning to Dominic Lawson. Good morning, Dominic. Welcome. Good morning everybody. Hope everybody's well. Good to have you here and if I don't know if you wanted to chime in or not about this band thing, you're more than welcome to if you have anything. No, I don't have anything, just. Wanted to be here in. Support, that's all. Cool. I love it. Thank you for being here. Awesome. Good to have you here. And is there a new episode of Mental Health Rewritten that's out yet? Yes, there's actually one that came out yesterday rewriting the conversation around suicide. So just having that conversation. So yeah. Got a lot. Of positive reviews about that, so check it out. Awesome. And Dominic is in some kind of cave that has some kind of work going on behind in the. Background.

50 New York City life. That's what we tell him. Atlanta is a better choice for him. He doesn't listen. I'm currently in New York. I'm here for the Black Podcast Association Summer Social where I'm given the keynote this year. So you're going to get a workout in before the day gets started? Well, that's awesome. Say hi to Cory for me. I know Cory's at least an organizer. I think he's the organizer of that event. Say hi to Corey for me. And all right, I think now we can we can shift some gears here. And before we get into the guest topic, let me check in with Paula. Paula, we were talking earlier this week. That's why I was inviting you on the stage, because I didn't want you to think I forgot. You had mentioned something about some feelings you're having these days about, I guess maybe we should call it, your recent successes, your recent wins. And if you want to share, by all means go for it. OK, before I get into it, I'm still a broke bitch, so nobody come ask me for money.

47 Yeah, but we were talking about feeling like a fraud, you know, and and nothing imposter syndrome, but mostly fraud because this year has been wild for me. A lot of incredible opportunities and included in rooms that I don't even believe I should be in. My shout out to Dominic and my Hope boys, Chris, Walter, Dominic, they make me see the news that I don't see, but I also don't feel it. I feel like I am a fraud because podcasting just kind of dropped in the air for me, right?

29 It's nowhere. My career was headed. I was looking the other day and my entire argar is packed with pain. Stuff that I didn't even apply for. I have clients like Dominic and Walter. I don't even feel like I I can say that out loud and be proud because I still laughed at the fact that Oh my God, Dominic and Walter are my clients. I still feel like they talk proudly about me when I say this year has been back end. I never even thought I'd be in a position to tell Budweiser to hold on right now, even though that was one of the sponsorship that I was always wanting.

10 But now I'm telling them, oh wait, I can't, I'm a fraud. Listen, even the female entrepreneurship, Yes, I'm a female, but I really don't see myself as an entrepreneur. So that all magazine and people wanting autographs and then I got asked to be a keynote speaker in a fully paid trip to a conference in Japan, which I'm just like no, I can't. Wow, y'all know? I don't like speaking. I've said no to speaking. I don't want to speak and I'm being paid to moderate. Like all these things. That's what I'm saying. Like even talking about them, I'm shaking. And I'm like, there's so much that's happening in the back end that yes, it's not reaching money on the table yet, but it's opportunities that I would have never dreamed of that are happening.

00 Dominic knows this. I just shared it with them yesterday. I even Malcolm just passed away and the black community, it's a big, a big loss for us. But last year somebody went to his keynote and spoke about my podcast and the conversations were happening. We just never got to that point. But it's like all these things and I'm like, I feel like a fraud because I shouldn't. No, I agree. You shouldn't. The fact that so many people are coming to you to be a part of something that they're doing, that alone tells me you're not a fraud. I know maybe you feel like it, but the point is, is that people obviously are valuing what you do, what you say, and they want you to be a part of it.

49 I and I want to pause and let Jonathan chime in a little bit because I feel like this is a bit of an area of his expertise. This is kind of the stuff he works on with a lot of his clients. So, Jonathan, what say you? You've got to acknowledge, you put in the work. You've got to look at it and say I've done all of these things. Look at what you've done in the past two years. I've seen you do so many things. You've grown in so many ways. You are in a fraud. You've put in the work to get there. People trust you because you've shown them that they can trust you. Think about all you've done to show people that they can trust you and how many things each time. I mean, the first person I saw when I went to podcast Movement was you running up to me. I'm like, Oh my God.

34 Oh, it's Paula. A little package with a huge presence. And you deserve it. And you should celebrate each and every one of the wins that you have so you remember that you deserve it, because you do. It's all earned. You made yourself seen and valued, and that's what it takes. I know that right? And believe me, I'd be the people telling you that as Dominic, even you, Mark, I'd be like, yo, you need to celebrate. I'm the high person who, but I don't know how to do the same for myself. Like to tell myself that you deserve this, you've and this, you've worked for this. And actually, just yesterday, I am so grateful for Dominic, Walter and Chris and that group of hours we have 'cause they really do see me.

26 And we were talking about how they see me versus how I see myself. And then it came that I was like, yeah, 'cause Dominic at one point recommended a documentary for me to watch. And when I watched it, it really did give me the motivation go for things. And that's when I started working on all these new projects and going bravely in for the things that this year I'm getting. And every time I feel down, I watch that. But I've also told myself, like, I get this ego, it goes up. And then I'm also like, I'm trying to remind myself to slow down.

06 And they even told me that, like, make sure your ego doesn't become kind of ego, right? And I try not to. And I know I deserve it because I've earned it, because I've walked out. But when I sit down and really by myself, I'm like, I feel like a fraud. So I'm trying to figure out how to embrace it. Let me cut you off if you don't mind, because I saw Amanda wants to chime in while you were talking, so I think maybe she can offer something. Go ahead, Amanda. Paula, you know I love and adore you. You're amazing. And I can hear it in your voice that you're in a season of of something. So listen, it might be time and I know you might not be able to do this because multiple people on stage could not do this.

49 To have like, I feel like you're at almost needing a manager. And I say that like not to like be silly, but like to be serious where it's somebody who can help orchestrate your August so it's not so jam packed to know what to say yes to, what to say no to, to go. You can't say no to this because you're closing doors and you're capable of this. Like almost like it would be a close friend that could do those things for you. And I'm thinking like that Japan trip, would you have felt different if you would have been able to negotiate someone going with you? I just don't want to be a speaker. Do you not want to be a speaker because you just don't feel like what you just said? Like in your core of core, you don't think you're equipped to speak or you don't like to speak. I hate it.

33 I hate it. OK, Because that's. Different So what I would recommend is anytime you're being reached out to have a speaking opportunity, maybe you have like that one sheet that you can pass out as the things that you do offer that I'm seeing the hosting the greeter like those type of things and maybe your fees. So that way you have they make space for you in the capacity that because I'd hate for opportunities to just pass you by when given because maybe they just feel like that would be below what you would be willing to do. So they're offering where they see you at the level that they see you, but you're staying at the season in this arena and in doing well, maybe they would go, oh, well, we did need someone for that. And then you're getting in a place around those people and in an activity that, I mean, there's no doubt that you're a blessing in those areas.

26 And maybe someday you'll feel like you don't hate speaking in front of people, because I do think you have so much to say. I feel like that a lot of this may have to do with lack of repetition. In other words, I think the more that you force yourself to step on stages, the easier it's going to get. Go ahead. And I don't know that Paula saying it's intimidated as much as she just doesn't like it. Like if you don't like doing something, reps can't make you like it more. I want to challenge that for a second. Who here thinks Paula doesn't like to talk? There's a difference between talking. I challenge that. I think that if you are. I'm with you, Mark. Thank you, I think if you're a person who enjoys talking. Wait, who was that?

08 That was Yvonne. Paula, you said that you don't have anything to say because you're still learning. And I often feel the same way. But here's the thing. Yeah, we're all still learning and you're wherever you're at. You're that many steps ahead of somebody else who would love to learn from you. And I get the not wanting to speak. If you had told me that I would want to be speaking, if you told me that five years ago, I wouldn't like what spit taped in your face, it would have been like, no effing way am I going to be speaking in front of people. And, and I think that's the main thing is you got to trust yourself because even if you are still learning, there's something for you to offer people. And clearly that's being you're being called to it. I'm with you, Yvonne, and I'm going to keep going, Paul. I'm going to make you make you stay quiet for a second because there are more people that want to chime in. And 1st I want to before I go to Hillary and Amanda yoa on the chatter stage, I want to stop pause real quick to say hello to Pedro on chatter here on stage.

22 Pedro, one of the O GS of the podcasting morning chat. Good morning to you, Pedro. Welcome. Good morning. Good morning, beautiful people. How are y'all doing? It's good to see the podcast in morning Chat over here on Chatter. Man, this, this the warms my soul. It's going to be a good day today. What's going on, Mark? Jonathan, good to have you here, Jaro. I appreciate it. Yeah, Pedro has been over here on Chatter for a while now doing a morning thing as well. Thanks for taking some time, Pedro, to be here. And of course, you are always welcome to be here. And by the way, why don't you just share real quick? What is that show that you do in the mornings here on Chatter? Yeah. So the morning show we do is called the Morning Social. You know, talk about stuff that's going on in the news, entertainment, morning conversations over coffee.

05 And and usually. That's, you know how how it ends up going. So a variety of topics. Cool. Awesome. Welcome back, Pedro. All right, I'm going to go to Hillary here on the chatter stage. Hillary, welcome back. Good morning. What did you want to add? The reason why we avoid things with impostor syndrome is because we feel like we don't know the, we don't really know what we're talking about or we feel like even if what we do know isn't enough, that other people know so much more. Why are we being selected? So go to ChatGPT, ask it. Can you quiz me on and give it the topic that you're going to speak on and go deep with it. I mean, go real deep with it. If you can explain it to a child that they make it make sense, then you know what you're talking about. Literally.

47 If you can make a child understand your subject matter, you know what you're talking about and you know enough to get up there and talk to everybody else about it. If you cannot explain it, then maybe you need to learn a little bit more. But I have a feeling that you understand it really, really a lot better than you think you do. Then that's all it takes is just that reassurance of yourself knowing, wait, I do know what I'm talking about. You know, your viewpoint is what is valuable. That's what people are approaching you for because of the way you see things and the way that you approach the situation. They want to hear your thoughts on it. So. Amen to that. I hope that helps. Yeah. Thank you, Hillary. And I hope this helps more than just Paula, because let's be real, I think a lot of us podcasters go through this at one point or another.

29 So hopefully some of these words that are being shared today is landing on somebody who needs it. And let's check in with Amanda Yoa on the Chatter stage. Good morning to you, Amanda. What did you want to add to this? You have such a popping personality, you kill it on everything you do but I. Can feel what sounds like a little bit of burn on it. This is just been my personal experience. When you are constantly in the doing, when opportunities are rising, when things are happening for you. And it's almost surprising because you've worked so hard to get yourself to this space that when this comes up, you're like, wait a minute, like I've been working hard, but you have to work twice as hard as your in your mindset.

14 And that was a lesson that I had to learn. I'm working on my mindset daily because I know I can't pour from an empty cup. If I'm not. Feeling it to be true, if other people are seeing my greatness and I'm not seeing it for myself, I got to flip it, reverse and rewind and go back and have a chat with myself. So you know, as they say, fake it till you make it. I feel like you're in a season now or you're making it. So you got to make a choice what you're going to do for yourself. And I think all you need to do is just have that conversation with you, Look yourself in the mirror and tell you that you are worthy, you are ready. You are a leader in what you do right? And you bring to the table uniqueness. That is you and nobody else can do that. Nobody. OK, brand on point girl. So have that chat with yourself.

58 I think it's honestly just as simple as that. And have a daily. Have a daily and watch what comes up for you. Talk that out. Mindset is so important. I'm right there with you. There are things that are, it's happening for me that I'm like, holy crap, and I need to have that conversation with myself. Am I ready for this? Yes, I am because I've been working hard to get myself to where I am today. So work on that mindset, girl, You're ready for it. Everybody needs to experience you. You need to believe that within your core and then you were going to explode. Thank you. 22 awesome pieces of advice, one from Hillary, one from Amanda, although multiple pieces within both, but thank you for all of that.

39 And I, one of the points that Hillary brought up that I just want to circle back to is that whole idea, and I'm sure some people have heard it, but I'm sure many haven't. That whole idea that all that matters are the people that are behind you. It doesn't matter that you may not be at the level you're expecting yourself to be. You haven't quite reached that goal yet. You're not quite like those people that you follow that you're striving to maybe learn from and and to learn from. But what really matters is just those people behind you that are, that are looking to move forward, that are looking to grow. And you are that person to them because you're making it feel more relatable to them than those people that have a million followers like that just feels so out of reach. But you have a, you have a proven following that listens, that responds, that interacts, and you have so many great things to say that that those people behind you are going to gravitate to that.

41 And that's so true because Dominic and Walter didn't need to hire me. Yep. I feel like sometimes I want to see what they see in me because I know I talk a lot of shit and because maybe in my mind I put myself in that I talk a lot of shit, but they see through the shit that I talk. I don't know. But also to answer Yvonne, I really, really from the bottom of my heart do not want to be a speaker. I understand everybody is different and everybody gets another things, but there's a reason I tried it and there's a reason why I never applied for Empowered or any other.

22 And there's a reason why I say Pod Fest was going to be my last place and why I only spoke at Pod Fest and Alphas and Al yours. I needed to get what I got and learn from what I needed from those places. And that's why I no longer like even ask Dominique. When we were in Detroit, I thought I was going there to, to assist and learn. And when they told me they were putting me in a panel was like, oh shit, I didn't know I had to be in a panel because I in my head, I was done speaking. But then it was a panel and I said I would be in panels in moderate and awesome places that my energy or my mind feels to it. And that's why I do those panels. Even this panel I didn't apply.

11 I don't apply to speak anymore. The last place I applied to speak was Pod Fest last year, which I spoke this year in January. I don't apply to speak even the one I'm moderating with Walter I got recommended. I don't want to speak anymore like. I get it, and that's fair. I respect that. If that's genuinely where your heart is, you just don't like doing it, then so be it. Then you don't like doing it and you can still be a big influence, a big help to lots of people in lots of other ways. So yeah, if you don't feel it first, if you're standing on a physical stage, so be it. And Paula, because we're short on time and I see somebody else wants to chime in. If you don't mind, give me a minute. Let me ask you to pause and check back in with Jonathan. Go ahead, Jonathan.

58 Oh, OK, Cool, cool. And thank you for sharing that, Paula. I don't believe Paula because I see myself in Paula like a year and a half ago. So, Paul, are you going to be empowered at Empowered Podcasting this year? I'm sadly enough. Oh, OK, never mind. Even if you were a volunteer. I haven't been reached out to. People have been reached out to. So I don't know, you know? I'm reaching out to you now, feel. Like we have been wanting me and no, you can't reach me out after I've said nobody has reached me out. I wanted to have you actually come and be a part of my panel because it's not that you don't want to speak that, it's just you don't know the right way to speak at these things, which I get.

38 I do things differently too, so talk to me. Yeah. I was going to say, you guys have a conversation. If Paula's interested, have a conversation outside of here. And Paula, you are always welcome and always invited to anything that we do. And don't take it personally because quite frankly, we haven't really reached out to anybody for volunteering yet because we've been struggling to get some other areas. I've seen people giving their videos of last year experiences and I wasn't reached out to give my experience. I'm just saying, I'm just saying I, I didn't feel like I was included in this year. So, you know, we'll see. See, and I could and I could have said to you, I got the impression you had no interest 'cause you never reached out to me and said you were excited. Why should I reach out to you when you are the one planning this?

24 Now I'm just telling you that. This is your thing. I'll tell you why, because I'm planning this and I have so many different bells. In this, I have the time to reach out to everybody else. Why can't you do that? To me, I didn't reach out to everybody. Else you have your views. I have mine, but I stand on that. If I'm part of the community and I was there last year and I gave my all, I should have been reached out to and I stand on that. I don't care what everybody else says or what the other thing is, but that's what I stand on and I'm going to stand on that. OK. Thank you very much. You're welcome. Can I, can I pop in here? I think Paul, a lot of people are not hearing Paula when she's saying she doesn't like to speak, not her calling.

06 And so it's not that Paula doesn't know how to speak. She captivates the room. She's wonderful at it. I feel like I I think Paula has heard and learned how to say no, like so many of us struggle sometimes. So I think Paula's excellent at what she's does and she's just finding her place. And so she's in an E season. I'm saying no. So she's figuring out what can she can next say yes to and I'm super excited for her. Thank you. Because when you say somebody doesn't know how to speak when she's been on stages and she's been invited on stages, it's kind of a shitty comment to say, but I'm going to let it slide because that's the social media manager who's saying it. So we're going to.

52 Let you know that and that's not And that's not what I meant. That's not what I meant at all. But I said that I don't. I think you you found your way of. Speaking. I literally said I don't fucking want to speak. OK, that's fine. I hear why Paula might feel offended and I think Jonathan did not mean to offend. I think Jonathan meant to encourage and made and it didn't land the way. Without forcing somebody to do something, they. Already. Literally. Say 2-3 times, 4 times, but that's OK. Now I'm going to be the angry black girl in here, but I don't mind. You have every right to express how you're feeling about any part of the conversation so that it's all good. And again, I think that people just care and want to see you flourish in every area possible.

40 And so maybe maybe we should have pulled back and that's why I also said it a little while. Ago on that. If you want to see somebody flourish and nourish and all that, when they're telling you exactly where they want to flourish and nourish and you're still inputting that, is that really supporting? Well, again, I also had called out that if you say you don't want to speak, then we should have respect that. I don't know what you want me to say, Paula. I was, I was supporting you. OK. And then there she goes. OK, So I, I'm not sure what happened here. I think everybody was just trying to be encouraging. And I understand that it rubbed Paula the wrong way that we were still trying to encourage or some of us were trying to encourage her to be on the stage.

22 And I think again, that was really out of love and respect and there was no offense meant by it. But I recognize and hear that it was offensive to Paula. So please forgive us for anything that offended you this morning. My Wi-Fi was acting out. Sorry. OK, it wasn't a total FU and I'm leaving and you left. It was the Wi-Fi, no? I'd rather do that in Pakistan. Exactly. Amanda, did you want a final word? If I may. So I think this is a very important conversation that a lot of people, the entire community can learn for that just because somebody's given opportunities that we would love doesn't mean it's right for them. And I think that that's OK.

09 So I think it's, it's a matter of, of truly listening to what they're saying as opposed to it being excuses as often sometimes people give because they are afraid to do something where sometimes it's just I don't want to do something, how can I find the next best thing in lieu of this? And so I think this is a great learning experience for the entire community and that not everything that somebody would dream of doing is right for the next person. So I think that's that's just a great way to maybe end the room. I think you're right. Thank you, Amanda. I appreciate you tying it together and calling it out for what it is. And Paula, I do hope there was some stuff in there that was helpful to you and recognizing that some of it was not. I took what was meant for me in other aspects and I appreciate everybody who spoke up and thank you Dominique, because you have actually seen me speak and be a part of a panel and and have given me your feedback.

12 So I'm glad you see that. I am not scared of speaking as some people think. It's not about that. It's just that I really don't want to, and I'm choosing not to want to. And then there's a difference. And as Amanda said, we should learn to hear people instead of just responding. So thank you, everybody for everything you shared. I appreciate it. Thank you, Paul, and I'm glad we had this conversation. Me too, and I'm glad to have you back on the stage as well. So with that, we are back tomorrow. And since we didn't get to the whole guest conversation, we'll do that tomorrow before we share and celebrate our wins from the week. So come tomorrow with your thoughts on what really makes a guest great and how do we find more of those kinds of guests. So we'll talk about that tomorrow along with our wins from the week.

03 Please join us 7:00 AM Eastern on Chatter, on Clubhouse, on YouTube Live, whatever floats your boat. So until tomorrow, make it a great day everybody take care.
